91% of homes currently listed for sale in Scotland are finding a buyer, according to Rightmove’s September House Price Index
Selling success varies sharply by nation and region. Across Britain, a home for sale has about a six-in-ten (61%) chance of finding a buyer.
Rightmove says the Scotland result is partly due to different buying and selling laws and practices. In Scotland those include the missives process that concludes a purchase. By comparison, 71% of homes find a buyer in North West England, 56% in the South East, and 42% in London.
Across the UK, the average time to find a buyer is 64 days, with a further 150 days on average to complete, so new sellers who only match those averages may not move until after Easter 2027.
Mortgage costs remain a headwind. Rightmove cites an average two-year fixed mortgage rate of 5.29%, up from 5.09% a month earlier. Separately, the Bank of England held Bank Rate at 3.75% in mid-September, but fixed mortgage pricing still rose with swap markets.
