New findings from the BBC and Righmove show that Competition for a rental property in the UK has significantly intensified, with an average of twenty requests received to view each available property, up from six in 2019.

Pressure on renters in Scotland is even higher, with the number of enquires per rental jumping from just eight in 2019 to twenty seven in 2023.

The only region of the Uk with a more competitive rental market is the North West of England, where the number of viewing requests per property has crossed thirty.

The rise is in due to people being priced out of ownership by rapidly rising interest rates, landlords selling up and exiting the rental market as well as record levels of net immigration to the UK
